CONDO COLD WEATHER TIPS
Utilizing the following ideas will help to insure the well being and
performance of your condominium during the winter season.
1. Make sure all windows and sliders are closed tightly.
2. Closed window dressings will help minimize drafts.
3. Keep the damper closed when the fireplace is not in use.
4. Turn off the ceiling fan in the bathroom(s) when not in use.
5. Open the flaps on the baseboard to their fullest.
6. Keep all closet doors open so that these areas receive heat also. This isn’t
always convenient during occupancy but when departing this practice
greatly reduces the possibility of freezing pipes and allows heat into areas
with no baseboard.
7. Vanity and cupboard doors (especially the ones under the sinks) should be
left open so that heat can access the wall where the pipes are.
8. Set your thermostat to 60 degrees during a cold snap and, if possible, before
it arrives.
9. Turning your clothes washer feeds off at departure will eliminate any
water damage should a hose fail.
